"We purchased our Sleep Number 5000 about a year ago. Had we known how happy we would be with the bed, we would have done so sooner! I have a chronic pain condition and need a bed that I can adjust as needed, and my husband prefers a firm mattress. In the past, we have had both a firm mattress and a plush pillow top. In both cases, one or both of us had great difficulty sleeping and woke the next morning feeling sore and unrested. Our king size Sleep Number 5000 helps us get the comfort and quality restorative sleep we both need. It has made such a difference for both of us that we have a hard time sleeping anywhere else. This has truly been the best purchase we've made, and without a doubt, my next bed purchase will also be a Select Comfort!"
"We have had our Select Comfort bed for almost two years. While we were somewhat hesitant about spending that much money for a mattress, it probably was one of our best purchases. We had a king size water bed and replaced the mattress with a Calif. King which fits perfectly. Like some others here have said, our only problem is the foam barrier between the air chambers, but have adjusted to that. For the first time in years I have been able to sleep through the night and wake up without sore back. I have sleep apnea and am on an auto-CPCP which adjusts pressure to maintain open airway. Since switching to Select Comfort my average pressure required has dropped 2 points, meaning airway is staying open better and thus better sleep. My wife has fibromyalgia which open awakens her several times a night. Again, she feels she is sleeping through the night and feels much better in the morning. All that aside, this bed is down right comfortable for us. Money well spent, and recommend it to all my friends."
"We looked at these beds for over 3 years and finally decided to make the "jump". We decided that while it was a very big purchase, that sleeping was something that we did for a third of our lives so it might be important to be comfortable doing it.
We have loved it ever since. I'm heading there now and I can't wait to get there. The bed is very comfortable and we love that we can adjust it if we need to for whatever reason. I've already recommended this to some friends who have in turn bought one and also love it. EXCELLENT BUY!!!"

Finally... A good night's sleep!
Date:April 26, 2012
"If you give the bed a chance to 'break in' and you find your sleep number, it's truly a great bed! It took over a week to find the right number, but now it's amazing. I'm now torn in the morning... get out of bed and go to work or continue to sleep so comfortably. What a dilemma. Love bed! I have already recommended this to some friends and family. Setup and installation was very easy to do. Very happy!!"

Unhappy but hopeful
Date:April 2, 2012
"I am unfortunately very disappointed with our bed purchase afer three uncomfortable weeks. My husband is happy, but I'm dreading the thought of sleeping on this bed for the next 20 years. It's ironic that I can sleep on just about anything, but not this matress! My problem is that, even though we bought the top of the line model, the top padding is too thin and I am feeling too much of a hard surface below. Sitting up in bed to read is extremely uncomfortable, and yes, I have tried adjusting my "number". My husband has given me the go-ahead to go back to the store and try out a different model and see if we can switch to smething that is better for me. That leads to more dread because we were told by the salesperson that we could make an exchange, but she did not tell us we would incur shipping costs. We have already paid over $3000 for this bed, and I do not understand why I should have to pay more in the hopes of getting something I can live with. I am hopeful that Sleep Number will truly back it's product and I will be able to submit a happier review in the future."

Much different than the store display!
Date:March 20, 2012
"We have had our bed about 2 weeks now and the first night seemed wonderful! However, there was definately a noticable difference in how plush the foam top was compared to the one in the store. Even the appearance, as others have stated, differs from the one seen in the store. It is a good mattress and you definately dont have to worry about it sagging or about finding a mattress to fit two opinions on what you want (his and hers). I have to say, I am contemplating either biting the bullet and stepping up to the i8 ( $600 more plus return shipping) which is a difficult and painful (in the wallet) consideration, or more likely, returning it entirely (which still costs $200). So, either way this has been an expensive experiment. I cant say as to whether the stores use an upgraded padding or foam on the displays, however, I can definately vouch that the one I received is nowhere near as full or plush as the one I tried in the store! I also noticed, as did a few others, that the bed settings are VERY inaccurate... Set it at 45 and wake up at 15-25 sometimes, or go to increase to 95-100 from 45-50 and jumps instantly to 80 and stops at 95-100 even though the bed feels like it is still less than say 70."

Great Mattress

"I am admittedly a biased reviewer because I own 3 beds now. Never a problem even going back to my first bed in 1998 which I still use. I almost sent my first bed back but decided it was to much trouble to return. BOY am I glad that I didn't return it! I slept on my new P5 last night for the first time. Without a doubt it's the most comfortable of all my beds. If you give the bed time it will not disappoint. I use a single chamber mattress so I can hog the entire bed. I got the in balance layer which seems to work well. As I said, give it enough time. I have never had to replace any component nor had any issues."

"Owned my p5 for almost two years now. I bought the p5 as opposed to other models because it was kind of right in the middle of price and comfort. Translation: I can't afford the innovation series, and the classic series just felt like an air mattress. The p5 is absolutely perfect. My wife would complain about her back every morning. My problem was that I would wake up and adjust three to five times a night. Now, I sleep straight thru the night and it's fantastic. What's even better is I don't have to listen to the wife moan about her back anymore. And while she's constantly adjusting her sleep number to suit her on a particular night, mine has been the same virtually the whole time I've owned the bed. Yes, it costs a small forturne to own a Sleep Number bed, but sometimes you just have to splurge. Very easy to assemble, no need to pay them the fee for assembly. I do not regret my purchase... As long as it continues to last me for years to come, I will be an extremely satisfied customer."

First Night - So Far So Good
Date:January 26, 2012
"I suffer from three herniated discs in my lower back, My wife is 6months pregnant with our third child. I casually mentioned buying a new bed to her several months ago, but she was reluctant due to the price. As time continues and her pregnancy furthers, she began complaining of stiffness and back pain in the mornings. My thought to her was "Welcome to the life of Back Pain".
That day we had to run errands to the mall and stopped by the sleep number store just to see the beds and get a better feel. The Sales routine in the store is very educational and although it is still a sales routine, it did not feel like we were being sold, but educated. Her big concerns after reading through just about every review was the foam bar in the middle. The sales man opened the bed up, showed us the parts inside, and we both laid over the bar and could not really feel any difference since our numbers were very close to each other.
She gave me the OK to go ahead and purchase the P5 Kind Size bed, which we did and had delivered vs set up. The bed and frame was delivered slightly over a week, because we had purchased the bed on a holiday weekend. Setup was fairly straight forward and took about 45min to an hour. I am an engineer, but it still wasn't that difficult to install and assemble. It was harder to take everything out of the packaging vs assemble - and it was a King Size.
Last night was our first night on the bed, and we both commented this morning that there were no aches, pains or complaints. I did notice as I was getting up out of the bed in the morning, the bed felt softer than the one in the store, only as I was standing up, not while I was sleeping. I started on a 45 which I was a 50 in the store, so that may account for the difference, but it felt as if the side foam rails were not as stiff. Also looking at the bed, it appeared to be flat, or just not look as full as the one in the store. This did not affect the comfort, but only the general appearance. I can see where some people have commented that they may feel it is cheaply made because of that. I can not say I agree, but did notice it. For some reason the bed in the store appeared to feel more solid and firmer in general. Again, I have not noticed a difference in the comfort, but the general image of the bed.
We are both very anxious for our second night on the bed, and I know one night is simply not enough to made a $$$$ decision, but I am looking forward to continuing to have restful nights and hope the bed continues to perform.
So far so good.
Both my wife and I are excited about sleeping in the same bed again."

So Comfy!
Date:January 19, 2012
"We LOVE our new bed! We started looking in to purchasing a sleep number bed because my husband likes a firm mattress and I prefer a soft one. My husbands parents purchased one of the original models back in 1994 and still sleep on it today and LOVE IT. After going in to the store and trying out some of the beds, we settled on the P5. We received the bed in less than a week and were able to assemble it very quickly. This bed is so comfortable, you will not want to get out of bed in the morning! It is so nice to wake up without any pain and actually feel rested (I kept waking up with our old mattress trying to get comfortable). I do recommend that you go in to the store and try out the beds rather than ordering online. We were originally looking at the C4 model online and when we got to the store, we didn't like it as much as this one. We also figured out that we didn't like the 5000 dollar bed as much as this one either! We are definitely glad that we spent the hour in the store! It is a big purchase but well worth it with the warranty and the quality of sleep you will get! You will feel so great!!"

Love The Bed! :) Not the price! :(
Date:January 16, 2012
"Our traditional mattress was about 15 years old and had indentations where we slept in the bed. After suffering with back pain and sleepless nights, we decided to look for a new mattress. We saw the TV commercial for sleep number beds and decided to look at them. We really wanted one but decided they were way too expensive! We shopped around and we were suprised how expensive other beds we picked out were too. So we gave in and went with the P5. I only wish I would have bought it the same night we tried it out! We've had the bed for a month and so far the only negatives I have are... It does look a little cheaply made while they are putting it together, and I really wished they weren't so expensive, (I would love to have a split king with adjustable base!) All that being said, A good nights sleep is priceless! And we wake feeling rested! We love our bed so much we even go to bed earlier now!"

"After trying the sleep number beds at the store we were ready to buy and we picked the p5 in the store and it felt wonderful. We have had this bed for over two months now and it feels nothing like the one in the store. Sleep number sent us an extra piece of foam but still extremely dissatisfied. Its not at all feeling like the one in the store and we have given it the break in time as customer service said. Id have to say this is the worst bed i have ever slept on and worst money i have spent."

not so happy!
Date:January 3, 2012
"Well I've had my sleep number bed for about a week not and not so satisfied. I have tried a few settings and when I'm sleeping on my side its comfortable. However, when I'm on my back, my lower back begins to hurt as though I'm laying on a bed thats too stiff. My current number is 40. ill continue to try the bed and experiment with additional numbers. My concern is that the bed does not have enough foam between my back and the air cushions."

"With all the hype on this bed we just had to try it out. Wow, are we unhappy w/ it. We tried to adjust the bed to our correct number like we were told to. We were not happy w/ the results. My husbands back started to hurt, I ached all over. Not the bed for us. While taking the bed down for a return, we realized it is nothing but an air mattress, foam siding and hard plastic frame. Buyer beware...."

LOVE IT!!
Date:December 11, 2011
"My husband and I bought our Queen P5 bed 3 years ago. I was hesistant to pay that much for a bed but we did like how they felt in the store. We went to a large department store and tried out some of their "luxury" beds. (we'd never looked at beds in that price range before!) None felt as good as the sleep number!! We went back to the sleep number store the next day and placed our order! We both love the bed, it is sooo comfortable. We both suffered from overworked backs and this bed has definately helped. It makes so much sense to be able to adjust your side of the bed to the setting you want. How many times do we compromise with our spouses!!! With a sleep number its up to you, no more compromising!! Our son really likes our bed too and continues to ask for a Sleep Number of his own! When we have enough saved up we'll upgrade to a king for ourselves and give our son the queen. Whenever we are on travels we too get into the beds and say "this is no sleep number!!" Yet another reason we look forward to coming back home! Thank you for such a good quality bed."

best bed ever
Date:November 29, 2011
"I have had my sleep number bed for 6 years, and it is the best bed I have ever slept on. My husband has a hard time sleeping at night and gets up 9 or 10 times a night and with our old mattress he was constantly waking me up also. With the sleep number I very rarely wake up when he gets out of bed. I sleep so good there are days I just want to stay in bed all day. I have recommended this bed to everyone I know and a few have listened. My sister and mother both bought one and love it too. I bought one for each of my kids last year after many years of them complaining that my bed was the only comfortable one in the house. My daughter just started college and is now bugging me to buy an XL twin for her dorm (still thinking about it though what would I do with it in 4 years?) When I go on vacation now I only stay in Raddison hotels that have sleep number beds (I am spoiled). Love it Love it Love it!!!!"

Wouldn't buy another
Date:November 21, 2011
"We have had the bed for a long time now (well over 1 year) and I am still as dissatisfied as when we first purchased it. My husband still prefers to sleep in our smaller guest bed to sleeping with me in the master bed. I much preferred our old traditional mattress but we bought this one because he hated the old one. We have tried adjusting the numbers, got additional foam, body pillows, you name it and nothing has helped. I would like for my husband to finally be comfortable and for us to be able to sleep together again."

Great in the store. Very poor in use.
Date:August 22, 2011
"I cannot explain why this bed would be comfortable in-store, yet in-home (brand new) it would be absolutely horrible? I have no explanation. In-store, the bed felt comfortable, yet in-home, I cannot find ANY sleep number setting that supports adequately yet provides a comfortable feel. I am mystified - particularly when considering the expense incurred. I have tried every available setting - as instructed, yet I have back-pain now like never before. I read the CS remarks to "get used to" the bed, and it "takes several days or weeks... to become used to a Sleep Number Bed." That logic doesn't correspond with the price of this bed, however. My intentions are to follow the proper Sleep Number Bed procedures to return this bed to its maker. Now, we'll see if that is possible, or not. Finally, to say that I am extraordinarily disappointed in the performance of this bed would be a great understatement. I am flabbergasted at my own naivete in selecting a product such as this. My 6th sense told me "no", and now, with the product in-home, and with extremely poor rest quality night-after-night, I cannot believe I pulled the trigger on this purchase."

Greatest Bed I've Ever Owned!!!!!
Date:July 12, 2011
"I've had all types of beds ever since I was a kid. Everything from waterbeds, to daybeds, even a regular bed with an ordinary spring mattress. I started to hear about the Sleep Number beds for years always being real hesitant about the decision. My brother and his wife & kids all have their own Sleep Number and love theirs! So I thought I would try one. You know it was the best decision I've made in a long time! I absolutely love my Sleep Number bed. It varies what number I keep it on depending on how tired my body feels. But I just think that it is so unique how you can change the mattress from firm to soft in a matter of seconds without going from one bedroom to the other. I would definately recommend a Sleep Number to a friend!!"
