no more pain Date: October 26, 2007
"My husband and I have had every type of bed in 30 years. I have severe arthritis and a very bad back. I haven't slept well in years. This bed really saved me. We have had it several years now and it is fantastic. When my back hurts I can make only my side firmer, not his. When we travel all we want to do is come home to our sleep number bed. When you lie down and get comfortable there is just no other bed that can compare. Our beds in the past within a few years got a sagging spot where we both laid. That will never happen with our Select Comfort. My friends and family all want one of these beds. Sleep is a very important part of life. The better you sleep the better your day and life will be. WE will never be without our sleep number bed. When we build our new home all the bedrooms will have select comfort beds so that our guests can have the sleep quality we have every night. Thank you so very much for sleep number beds."

"A friend suggested we buy the Sleep Number when we were looking to get a new mattress and we are so glad we listened to them. It is absolutely the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. My husband feels the same way. Whenever we are a way from home...the one thing we miss the most is our Sleep Number."

Sleeping Well in Texas Date: October 15, 2007
"I have suffered with lower back pain and insomia for over 20 years. My wife and I have become frustrated with traditional mattresses over the years, as their quality seems to decline year after year. We have invested in high end matresses and had no better luck than the more typical quality.
Moving to the sleep number has solved my issues with lower back pain, but has also had the added benefit of being a good financial decison. Worring about our mattress wearing out and the ridge in the middle is now over.
Both of us are sleeping well and very happy with the 7000.

Not as Great as Iwas hoping Date: July 10, 2010
"I almost returned my sleep number I8 bed. My husband and I have been eyeballing it for years, but 5 years ago decided to purchase a cheaper foam mattress. After about a year, the foam mattress started hurting my husband's back, and after about 3 years, it started bothering me. So, we broke down and bought the I8 two months ago. Out of the box and assembled, it felt like an air mattress with some padding on top. I felt a "hard" spot where my rear end met with the air chambers (when laying on my back) everytime I laid on it no matter what the sleep number was set at. My husband felt the hardness, too, but admitted he was still waking up with less pain than our previous mattress. So, we went out and bought some extra padding to stuff in one of the zippered compartments to see if that would help. After a few trial-and-errors, we settled on a 2.5" memory foam mattress topper inside under the "select comfort foam". It seemed to help a bit (the thinker foam made it so you couldn't even feel the bed adjusting and the thinner foam wasn't enough. As far as the temperature regulation, I don't see any difference in the material, much to my disappointment. We even bought the in-balance mattress pad in hopes in would help "compliment" the material on the top of the mattress. Good in teory, but doesn't work, which is too bad because I sleep hot.

So, all in all, I can't say the bed is worth the price (although most mattresses are extremely overpriced anyway). It's not a bad mattress; it's just not worth $3000+ (we have a king-sized). It did seem to help my husband with is back pain, but it wasn't "life-changing" for either of us, and I sometimes think our old bed was more comfortable (which cost 1/3 of the price new). Plus, I don't feel Ishould've had to buy extra padding for this mattress which is almost top of the line.

Response from Select Comfort: By Stephanie, Customer Service, July 31, 2010
Hello there. My name is Stephanie and I’m a member of Select Comfort's online customer service team. I am so sorry that you are having issues with your bed and are not happy with it. We are happy to help you get comfortable in the bed. Sometimes, the bed can take a period of adjustment, as it is a much different type of bed than a traditional innerspring. It sounds like you may be having an issue finding a setting that is right for you. Your body will sleep differently than you are used to, as the bed cradles your body to alleviate pressure points. You will feel certain areas of your body dipping down in the mattress, especially in your hip area. The Sleep Number bed is an air mattress, and we do want you to feel the changes you make while adjusting your Sleep Number. Please be advised that we do not recommend adding foam inside the mattress, as it is only made to hold what it comes with. If you'd like to add foam, we ask that you do so by placing it on top of the mattress cover. For help finding the right Sleep Number for you, please visit: http://beds.com/sleep-number-bed-tips/. In regards to sleeping hot, the In Balance mattress pad should help you to sleep significantly cooler. If you find that you are not having these results, it may be affected by where you placed it. If you have other mattress pads over the top of it, we recommend placing the In Balance mattress pad on top. We also suggest using open weave blankets and lower thread count sheets, as they tend to breathe better. I thank you for your comments and hope these tips are helpful to you.

No More Temperature Swings!! Date: July 9, 2010
"I had a very good Queen size mattress that my husband and I were sleeping on, but I have have multiple major surgeries for cancer treatment that have put me into a premature menopause. I was waking up with my right shoulder almost paralyzed, along with the temperature swings due to the hot flashes, resulting in a very poor quality sleep. When I decided to make this purchase, my husband was annoyed as he did not see the need for a new mattress as our other one was relatively new. So to justify the purchase, I went to a King size.
I cannot begin to describe the improvement in the quality of my sleep. The outlast fabric is absolutely amazing and it truly does what it claims. There is actually a sense of coolness when your body is in contact with the sheets and mattress. I did outfit the bed with the outlast sheets and blanket (the pillow cover is a must for the full effect). You don't ever have to flip your pillow over as it never gets hot!
Beyond the sheets is the lack of pressure to your body; it's all about the pressure. Go to the store, try out the many beds. The sales people are wonderfully informative and will spend lots of time helping you make the best decision for your particular needs. They are patient, they explain everything in detail, and you will not be sorry. It is the very best thing that you can do for yourself and your aching body!

5 weeks in and loving it! Date: June 11, 2010
"I bought the I8 about 6-7 weeks ago. I think thats the model I ended up with -- the salesman was so patient and had me try any and every model I wanted -- as many times as I wanted. I was in the store for over 2 hours and ended up buying the adjustable option as well. I had read all the info about how much better people sleep with the sleep number bed, how back pain is eased, yada yada yada. I didnt pay much attention to all that -- didnt really believe it, actually -- but I needed to replace my old bed and liked the idea of the 30-day trial. I have had my bed for 5 weeks. Up until 5 weeks ago, I always woke up at least a half-hour before my alarm went off and sometimes much earlier. For the past 5 weeks, I would not have made it to work on time without an alarm clock! Everything I heard and read about getting a better nights sleep is true! And I have chronic lower back pain that has noticeably eased up over the past 5 weeks. Thank you~"

Sleep Nirvana on the I8 Date: October 31, 2009
"Since we spend one third of our life sleeping, I wanted to make sure my time is spent getting the most out of the sleep experience as possible. I also have sleep apnea and that entails a mask and CPAP hook up which can interfere with sleep, and I was beginning to wake up during the night with trouble falling back asleep.

My wife and I bought a SleepNumber 5000 in 1996 and were thoroughly happy with it for 13 years. We recently replaced it with an I8 and our experience with it is even better, and now i sleep even more soundly and more comfortably. This bed is a significant upgrade for us from an already great bed and mattress combination.

I heartily endorse the product and am very happy that we purchased it. It has significantly improved our quality of life and I wish I was this satisfied with all my product purchases.

"I have suffered from back pain since I was around 15 years old. I have tried all kinds of different mattresses and modifications, all to no avail. I woke up every morning with aches and pains that would last all day!!!
Since I bought this bed I have had more energy and less pain than ever. These beds are truly a miracle and I am SOLD on them. All I know is I use to hurt a lot in the morning and now I don't.
LOVE THESE BEDS!!!!

LOVE OUR SLEEP NUMBER 5000 Date: October 8, 2009
"My husband and I got a sleep number bed a little over 1 year ago. Having had just a regular style bed before we got so use to our new Sleep Number 5000 bed just being a bed (took it for granted) and didn't realize just how good it really was. Until, we had to go back on a regular bed on certain occasions and boy then we knew our S N did make a difference in our sleep, body aches, not feeling the opposite person getting out and in, comfort , etc. So to simply sum it up we would recommend a S N bed to anyone interested. The reason I marked the quality at good was because you do have to put it together which seemed weird to me when we bought it. ( gave me the impression: is this like cheap furniture you have to put together) But after my husband put it together, I saw that the quality really was good not like my first thought. The other reason was I had had a pillowtop regular bed before and those beds look so puffy and this bed wasn't near as puffy looking once I got it all set up in my room. At first it was hard to get used to the bed looking flatter. I probably would get one a bit more puffy next time but for now I bought the down/foam cover from sleep number just to add the really comfy, taller look I was use to. But all in all I love the bed and really am glad we tried the sleep number bed."

the very 1st night of sleep! Date: March 20, 2009
"over 7 years ago my husband purchased our 1st king size bed, needless to say, a pillowtop, and for the next 7 years we tossed and turned and had interrupted sleep and woke up aching all over. Last night we slept for the 1st time on our I8 Sleep # bed and woke up refreshed and we both slept for the 1st time straight through the night. I LOVE this bed, and my husband who is quite GRUMPY, wasn't this morining.
He was actually singing! Thank you Select Comfort and I am so happy we made the decision to purchase this bed.

LOVE THIS BED Date: February 10, 2009
"We bought this bed more than 8 years ago and have never enjoyed sleeping more and got more from it. We had 3 spring beds in 7 years and could not sleep on then after about 2 years each.
A friend recommended this bed and she is now even a better friend! All of our family members now sleep in a sleep number bed and will not change back.
It is without doubt the best bed made and just keeps feeling the same way, day after day, year after year.
Thank you Sleep Number!!

"I spent a long time researching mattresses. As the Sleep Number Bed is not small change, I wanted to make sure we were getting our monies worth. I am very pleased to say it is the best bed I've ever slept on, and my husband agrees. I used to wake up with very tight shoulders and a burning sensation in the top of my back. Not any more. The 7000 bed is a great buy and I would recommend the bed to anyone! If you get a chance, visit a Select Comfort store, the people are very friendly and the free pressure point test they do is worth the trip."

"I love my sleep number 7000. This is a 'dreamy' bed, and I have had many 'expensive' beds. My sleep number is the most comfortable I've ever had. I have had two back surgeries, and a ongoing back problem. I can now get a good night's sleep. I set my number at 35 and find this to be the one for me. I snuggle in and am finally able to have comfort for my body & back. I recommend this sleep number bed to all my family, friends and everyone. It's the best! Love it!! Love it!!"

The most comfortable bed ever!!! Date: October 28, 2007
"We have had water beds, regular beds and a temperpedic matress, but this is the most comfortable bed that we have owned. Unlike the other matresses, it doesn't keep the heat in and make you too hot. I have had back surgery, I have arthritis and Fibromyalgia. This is the only matress that has allowed me to get a restful sleep. I awaken with much less pain and there are days that I even awaken pain free depending on the weather. The only thing that I would change is that if I had known how comfortable it would be, I would have gotten the adjustable bed option. If you have any difficulty sleeping this is the bed you should try!"
