"This bed saved my marriage from seperate bedrooms. I need a firm mattress for my back and my husband loves a very soft mattress. This is a very good compromise."
"I am not a small man. The Select Comfort Bed is the best bed I have ever slept on. This is the Second one I have purchased the first one we gave to our oldest child it was about 9 years old and it was still like new. It has held up better than any other mattress and box spring set I have ever purchased in my lifetime. Being able to adjust your side of the bed without upsetting tne other is great. I had back pain every morning when I would wake up, but since we purchsed the Select Comfort Bed I have not woken up with back pain in 10 years. I believe it just from being able to sleep with your whole body being supported evenly no matter how you sleep or how big or small of a person you are. This sleep system is just incrediable."

Very Disappointed

"I've had a Select Comfort cSE for about 4 weeks now, and it iseasily the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. I purchased the bed to alleviate some back stiffness that I've experienced for a year when I awake in the morning, but since sleeping on this bed the stiffness is much worse and now includes significant pain as well. I've followed the directions for finding the proper setting, and been patient when setting the bed to a new number, but without satisfactory results. The bed just feels hard when set firm, and when set soft it feels like you're sinking into a hole. At any setting, it just feels "dead" . like there should be a LOT more padding. Unfortunately for me, since the cSE is a Special Edition I can't return it, which i would do in a heartbeat, nor do I want to risk exchanging/upgrading and be equally unhappy and out more money. We all know the showroom isn't sufficient to properly evaluate a bed's comfort, and that buying a bed is to some extent a crapshoot, but the level of discomfort of this bed is, to say the least, VERY disappointing."

"Love the bed! I replaced my full size with a queen size that I got in 1998. The only bad I have to say is my pump with my old bed was not noisey like this one. This unit scrared my dog! They give a cheaper and noiser pump with the C4 and I am sure the cost between them is around 10 to 20 dollars and does not make any sence to give you a unit that sounds like a JET PLANE taking off!"

"my wife and I purchased the bed 4000 about 9 years ago. Overall we like the comfort but have had problems with the base. The cross members are falling through frame and we had to use 2x4 wood pieces to stabilize the frame. Also the foam surround is falling apart. I doubt we would purchase another one"

Best bed ever!

"My parents raved about their Sleep Number bed for years and now that my fiance and I have our own place, it was just a matter of time until we could save up and get one for ourselves. We are active people who play sports a lot, so this bed really cushions our achy muscles at the end of a long day. We opted for the cooling topper and sheets--and for people that live in a hot, temperature-regulated condo buildling, these were essential. Our only complaint: getting out of bed every morning because we are so comfy!"

"We are a married couple in our early 60's. After having many problems with our pillowtop bed from a well-known department store: sagging, crunching and feeling your partner turn over, we decided on a Sleep Number bed. This will be the only bed we will own. We have found our perfect setting, with some minor adjustments, and now we sleep all night and wake up with no pain. We don't feel each other turn over, and it is so comfortable. I am telling everyone about this bed."

"My wife and i purchased a sleep # bed, we have had it for a few years, The bed is ok, but we have had to replace the controller once already and now it doesn't work right again,we paid extra to get wireless remote when we purchased the bed, the starndard was a wired remote. While it was under warranty last time and we only had to pay a portion of it (about $100.00) which is absurd, - With todays technology that a wireless remote costs that much for anything. This time we will have to pay more than twice that for a controller. I was going to buy another bed for the extra bedroom that we use when company comes or we are sick. I stopped in at the sleep number store and told them I wanted the wired remote this time and was told that its no longer offered. with that I left. So much for a second sleep number bed>>"

"I bought this bed after it was recommended to me by a friend who has one. I was hoping for relief from back pain. Didn't happen. I have tried numbers from 25 up to 80, no help with the pain. It has a "hard" feel to it, I'm going to try and get some type of foam to help "soften" the feel up some, but I don't think there is anything I can do for the back pain."

"Having had a sleep number C series bed for 5 years now I and my wife are completely spoiled. The construction and quality performance of the pump and materials used have been completely reliable. If the time ever comes to replace this mattress its a hands down another Sleep Number bed. Just a note to value seeking people, we added a 4" memory foam topper and realize the comfort of the better beds in this series. All in all you cannot match the quality and comfort this mattress affords with any other mattress out there."

Not As Comfortable as Expected
Date:September 12, 2010
"The bed is not as expected. I have back troubles and thought this bed may help well it didn't and my husband hates it. In order in sleep in this bed we had to get a matress topper. Wish I would have saved my money and just bought a different bed. I have adjusted the sleep number and so has my husband and just can't find our sleep number."

Hello, my name is Stephanie and I work as a member of Select Comfort's online Customer Service team. I am sorry to hear you’re having an issue getting comfortable in your Sleep Number bed. The bed can take time to get used to and everyone adjusts differently. The Sleep Number mattress is a much different sleep surface than an innerspring; you will sleep IN the Sleep Number mattress, rather than on top of it (as you would with an innerspring). We have many suggestions that can help you get comfortable and are happy to help you. Please call customer service, at 1-888-411-2270 for further assistance.

Best night of sleep ever!

"I am amazed at how great I have slept on my sleep number bed C4! I was starting to get really worried about how much my back was hurting in the mornings after sleeping on my old bed. The pain was so bad I couldn't lift my one-year-old out of his bed in the morning. Now I am sleeping so much more comfortably I'm even sleeping less. Thank you for having such a quality product at good price! I will never sleep on anything else."

Not Sure After 5 years
Date:June 24, 2010
"We bought this bed 5 years ago - the 5000 I believe it is. Well, we've had to replace the pump 5 times, and are again seeing some failure in one of the remotes. The bed isn't as comfortable as we hoped, especially since it costs more than a regular bed. I sleep at 35 - 40 range, and it feels like I'm sleeping in a horizontal tunnel. We are thinking of upgrading, but not sure if it would make any difference or economic sense."

Response from Sleep Number:By Stephanie, Customer Service, August 26, 2010
Hello. My name is Stephanie and I am a member of Select Comfort’s Customer Service team. I am very sorry for the issues you had with your pumps and can assure you that most customers never have to replace a pump. If you have not called customer service regarding the issue with your pump, please do so. We are happy to assist you in correcting it, either by replacing it under the terms of your warranty if needed, or by troubleshooting to correct the issue. As for the issue with comfort, if you feel like you are sleeping in a "tunnel" this could be due to the lower Sleep Number setting. If you feel like the edges of your mattress are higher than the chamber, we do have a solution for this, called a chamber lift. We would be glad to assist with both concerns. Please feel free to contact Customer Service at 1-888-411-2270. Thank you for choosing the Sleep Number bed.

Not sleeping well

"This bed may be good for average person, but if you have any chronic illnesses such as autoimmune arthritis, I would recommend going up to at least the P5. Once you own it, after 30 days, there is little you can do, to alter the bed. They were not made to upgrade at all. Otherwise, I love the concept, and wish I would have spent the extra dollars for the P5."

Response from Sleep Number:By Stephanie, Customer Service, September 22, 2010
Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am a member of the customer service team at Select Comfort. Thank you for your review, and am sorry that you are having issues getting comfortable with your Sleep Number c4 bed. Understandably, people with pre-existing issues may have a tougher time getting used to any new sleep surface. It sounds like you may wish you had purchased the Sleep Number p5 because of the additional foam in that model. While it is not possible to upgrade beyond the trial period, we do offer a few options to make the bed softer. One option is for you to purchase additional foam and add it on top of your cover (if purchased from another retailer). You also have the option of purchasing another topper pad from Select Comfort, to make the amount of foam compatible to the Sleep Number p5 model, which can be added inside the bed. However, please note that should you choose not to do this, we also are available to offer comfort suggestions and offer a Sleep Journal to further assist you. Please contact Customer Service at 1-888-411-2270 and we will be more than happy to help get you to the level of comfort you deserve!

Somewhat good for sleep, not for back
Date:May 12, 2010
"I have minor lower back problems, so I decided to splurge for a Sleep Number. It was very easy to put together, and at first, it was very comfortable. I had just moved into a new apartment, so my lack of sleep for the first 30 days was due to a loud neighbor and the fact that I'm a light sleeper. Once that was resolved, I realized that, while I could fall asleep easily and sleep through the night, I couldn't lay in bed and read, no matter what the number, as it made my back hurt the more I lay awake. The same was true when I happened to wake up during the night (remember - loud neighbor). It takes me a long while to get back to sleep, and my back hurts. Even when I get a full 8 hours of sleep, I wake up tired in the morning. I catch up on sleep over the weekend (10 hours or more,) but I'm usually tired at work.
The bed is good for when you have a good amount of time to sleep fully, as it's super easy to fall asleep. And it is an incredibly good feeling to lower my number to 45 or 40 and rest my back for 10 minutes or so. But for what I paid, I expected more.
P.S. The salesman at the store I visited (in NYC) was very courteous and answered all my questions truthfully, even if it meant he might not get a sale. Hard to find that nowadays."

Hi Leshka. My name is Stephanie. I work for Select Comfort's online Customer Service team. Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you are having an issue with back pain and with the Sleep Number bed. It sounds like a few things could be causing the issue. Lower back pain can be associated with using a Sleep Number that is too firm. However, it can also stem from the sleep position you are normally in. If you sleep on your side, I would recommend a body pillow. Placing the pillow between your knees will help to even out your hips and relieve pressure. However, sometimes lower back pain can mean that the bed is a bit too firm for your needs. Have you considered adding more foam to your bed? It may help to provide more support. If you choose to do so and purchase foam that is not from Select Comfort, you will want to place it on top of your mattress cover. I hope these suggestions have been helpful to you. Please feel free to contact Customer Service for further assistance at 1-888-411-2270. Sleep Well.

Excellent Bed With One Small Problem
Date:October 8, 2009
"When I first saw the Sleep Number Bed I was a little skeptical on how a bed could improve sleep and give you the flexibility to adjust the firmness of the mattress. I have thought about buying this bed for years, but was scared away by the price. I am happy to report that after almost a month of sleeping on this bed, the C4, I have absolutely no regrets. I do sleep great on it at night and there is no more hip pain and tossing and turning. Oh, about the one small problem, I sleep so good at night that I do not want to get out of bed and am sometimes late for work."
